A virtual reality training simulator for traditional Japanese swordsmanship. Developed using Unreal Engine, Perforce, and Blender, the game teaches the player the basics of kenjutsu through a series of gamified exercises in a culturally accurate and lovingly rendered dojo environment. The player practices the accuracy and timing of their cuts on bamboo and flung watermelons before facing off in a 1-on-1 dual with a humanoid enemy styled after a wooden mannequin. The game ends in a peaceful tea room to dispel the myth that the sword arts are about violence, and instead emphasize the more peaceful and disciplined core of their related philosophies. We also collaborated with our sister MIME team who developed a 3D printable controller attachment to turn a Meta Quest controller into a weighted katana for more realistic gameplay!
