Our goal is to design, manufacture, and test a rocket capable of reaching a target altitude of 30,000 ft with a dual deploy recovery and scientific payload. We are working on the Avionics for Oregon State University 30k Rocket Spaceport America team. Avionics are essential to a successful rocket launch and recovery, especially as the dependency on electrical systems for successful operations increases. This project involves designing and constructing a system with redundancies which will track, deploy, and recover a rocket designed to reach 30k feet. The main focus is on avionics but will also involve some work with the ground station as well as recording and recovery of experimental data. The success of this project hinges upon Spaceport America Cup's International Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition presented by the Experimental Sounding Rocket Association (ESRA). Our system is comprised of several critical systems used in the rocket. The telemetry system will provide real-time GPS coordinates to allow for post-flight recovery. Antenna design must be carefully adapted to both the system and the project as a whole as recovery efforts cannot be compromised. Transmission frequency will also be a crucial part to consider. There will also be data logging and processing onboard the rocket which will be then sent to the base station for display.
