Digitizer AI

Electroencephalography (EEG) is a powerful, noninvasive tool for measuring the electrical activity of the brain, and it is widely used as a diagnostic and research tool. To interpret EEG data accurately, clinicians and researchers must know the precise 3D positions and labels of each electrode placed on the head. Unfortunately, existing methods to capture the positions of electrodes are either costly, slow, or not easily accessible in many healthcare/research settings. This limitation can create significant barriers for those working in resource-limited environments. Our project, Digitizer AI, aims to streamline the EEG process through the use of artificial intelligence to automatically detect the exact positions of electrodes from a single video captured on a cell phone. This will eventually eliminate the need for manual labeling, which can be very time consuming when working with a large number of sensors even for trained operators. Our goal is to make the process both faster and more accessible, as it does not require expensive equipment nor specialized expertise. By making advanced brain-mapping tools more accessible to hospitals and researchers, we hope to enhance surgical planning, enable more precise therapies, and improve overall care for people with epilepsy and other neurological conditions. We believe that by reducing the cost and complexity of electrode localization, Digitizer AI can support better healthcare outcomes across a variety of both clinical and research applications, making it a versatile tool for advancing neuroscience.
