Microscopic fluorescence detection is a technology used for sensing various chemical compounds, and it has had a unique impact on biochemical sensing. Our project, the Portable Microscopic Fluorescence Detection Platform moves this technology onto a mobile battery powered platform at a low cost and an approachable level of usability. To make the system portable, we successfully powered the system using a Lithium battery and regulation circuit. To perform the computation on board, we wrote embedded code in python which ran on a Raspberry Pi 0. In order to capture the images needed to analyze the fluorescence, we designed a camera apparatus with a filtering lens. Finally, in order to provide a user friendly experience when controlling the system, we created an Android mobile application which can wirelessly connect to the system. The user can control all camera settings and analyze spectra of samples all via their phone.
