Have you ever had a large homework assignment or a big project due the very next day but you couldn’t help but scroll on your phone to procrastinate? This is where the Custom Study Timer comes in handy to fulfill all of your wishes of being genuinely proactive! The Custom Study Timer is meant to be used as a way to keep students focused on their schoolwork and to avoid distractions. The Custom Study Timer is created with all of the users’ needs in mind. To start the system, there is simply a switch on the side of the box which will power it via a battery. On startup, the system will prompt the user to place their phone on top of the timer where it will prompt the user for a 5 minute or a 10 minute timer. Once the desired option is selected, the countdown will begin. Should the user need more time studying, a button is available to increase the timer by 1 minute increments. Once the timer is up, a 440Hz buzzer will go off to alert the user. Features: Some of the main features that this Custom Study Timer has included are: time-adjustable buttons, 3 different display brightness levels, a buzzer to let the user know when the time is up, and a phone detection system. Time-Adjustable Buttons: On the system startup, the user has two options for how long they want the timer to run: 5 mins and 10 mins. Once the timer has begun counting down, the user has the option to increase the timer countdown by 1 minute through a button should the user want to study for a longer period of time. 3 Different Display Brightness Levels: All students have different study preferences: some may prefer to study in darkness while others may prefer to study in bright light. Regardless of the students’ preference, there are 3 different brightness levels that they can choose by the press of a button to suit their needs. Time Up Buzzer: Once the timer has finished, there is a loud buzzer that will go off at 440Hz to let the user know that time is up and they can take a well-needed break! However, in order to help the user resist the urge of just picking up their phone during their study time, if the phone has been detected to be removed from the system, the buzzer will also go off. Phone Detection System: The overall system is capable of detecting any phone that is placed on top of the box by way of an ultrasonic sensor. When the phone is placed on the box, the system will detect it and begin the timer countdown. If the system detects that the phone was removed from the box before the timer has ended, the buzzer will be set off accordingly. Enclosure: The Custom Study Timer is made out of 3mm clear acrylic walls, allowing users to view the insides of the device. For ease of use, the enclosure is neatly labeled for the buttons, and the emergency switch on the side. For any minor adjustments or curiosity, lift the enclosure’s lid to access the electrical components. Custom PCB: Inside of the enclosure is a custom PCB that acts as a breakout board. A breakout board contains a microcontroller in the center, while maintaining accessibility to the pins on the microcontroller. The purpose of a breakout board is to “break out” the leads of a component on separate terminals so that manual connections can be made easily.
