Solar Generation and Synchronous Generation Dynamic Modeling, Assessment, and Comparison

Dynamic modeling of an inverter-based resource(IBR) solar site and a steam turbine-powered synchronous site. Models are used to assess if generation sites meet national requirements for stability during grid-level voltage and frequency events. Specifically, these models are evaluated against NERC's model compliance standards MOD-026 and MOD-027 along with ERCOT's model quality test. Both the IBR and synchronous models are developed within the power system simulation software PowerWorld. Both the IBR and synchronous models were effectively developed and are representative of the given sites. The synchronous site model was able to meet all requirements set by ERCOT's MQT while there were some development issues that did not allow for the IBR model to fully meet expectations of functionality.
