Auto PCB Fabricator (Prototype)

The Auto PCB (Printed Circuit Board) Fabricator is a project that won the HWeekend event with the prompt: "Make something that makes something." It is a 3D printer like device that uses the idea of tracing a PCB's copper traces on a bare copper-fiber board with a permanent marker to mask the copper before it is etched in an acidic bath. When the ink is removed holes can be drilled and surface mount components can be added to the board to make a working PCB for rapid prototyping. While this device is still in the prototype stage, it has a high potential to be used by the Maker community for quick prototyping alongside 3D printers and other systems that can fit in a single room.
