The project, WattWorks DC power supply, is easy to use, fully enclosed, and supplies accurate readings of voltage and current. The system supplies voltages from 2V to 14V under load conditions of up to 1.5A, with real-time display of the voltage and current on a LCD. Users are be able to adjust the output voltage using a potentiometer and quickly shut off the system with an on/off switch. Key technologies implemented include the use of a LM2596 switching regulator paired with a potentiometer for efficient voltage conversion and control. A LCD is connected to our PCB which allows the system to display real-time voltage and current readings. In order to ensure safety, the case will sport an on/off switch capable of shutting down voltage in case of emergency. The most notable achievements from our group include successfully integrating all blocks into a functioning power supply, identifying and fixing multiple shorts after extensive troubleshooting, and stabilizing our system within the enclosure to avoid a tangled mess of long wires. These accomplishments show our perseverance and problem solving skills, as well as showcasing the challenges we experience along the way. Our main challenge was for the system to be able to supply current of up to 1.5 Amps and for it to behave properly when loads smaller than 150 Ohms are attached to it. Areas for future improvement include using a more sophisticated electronic device to provide variable resistance and do more research in order to find a better IC chip for the conditions of this project.
