Armed & (not) Dangerous: 2-axis SCARA robot arm | Group 14 | ECE342-W25

This system is a SCARA two-axis robotic arm used to draw a 10-inch straight line with a speed of 4 inches per second. The system implements g-code, a common language for CNC machines, to allow a user to input commands. In accordance with the customer requirement, this system is also affordable, as it costs far below $100 and it’s simple to manufacture. This system uses two 28BYJ-48 stepper motors, connected via a 3D printed chassis and controlled by an Arduino UNO. The system also features an emergency stop switch, an LCD screen that conveys the current position information to the user, and a user interface implemented in the form of a Windows application. Notable achievements include successful implementation of the communication between the UNO and the UI, a simple and sleek chassis design, and an easy-to-use custom PCB to regulate the system’s power. Challenges included achieving precise dimensions for the chassis arms, ensuring accuracy in the arm position, and providing real-time information to the LCD.
