The 6th Sense: Haptic Audio Sensations (VibroSonics) is a wearable system that converts audio into low-frequency, high-amplitude vibrations to give haptic feedback. The main purpose of this system is to assist Deaf and hard-of-hearing people in experiencing music and other forms of audio. There are also potential entertainment applications, such as enhancing music by providing a secondary stimulation that gives you a more full-body listening experience. The device is currently worn on the lower back, inside of a slim backpack as an insert. The system works by taking in audio information from an FM radio receiver and can switch between a secondary set of inputs via an automatic switching audio jack with a 3.5mm audio cable. These audio inputs are then translated into vibrations via a quad digital to analog converter (DAC), gain amplifiers, and haptic exciters. There are five such exciters, with one representing bass frequencies, and two each for mid and high frequency ranges. The goal is to enhance the accessibility and enjoyment of experiencing audio for all users.
