The system is made to be a timer that only works when it detects a specified weight on its pressure plate. While the plate is pushed down you can set the time to either 5 or 10 minutes, as well as pause the timer and adjust the brightness of the display. The key technologies we used for this design was creating simple digital sensors from scratch through the use of our spring loaded pressure plate. The other key technology was the LCD display that we used to display the countdown as well as the status of the system. Our biggest challenges in this project came from having to integrate a system we were unfamiliar with after the group member who was working on that section had to drop out due to unforeseen circumstances. This also was our biggest achievement since neither of us had much experience with the microcontroller block so we had to figure out how it worked and get it integrated in a very short span of time.
