In collaboration with the OSU chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, we set out to address a major challenge faced by rocketry teams on campus: the high cost and complexity of commercial flight computers. Devices like the TeleMega can cost upwards of $500 and are often difficult to use for those without a background in computer science. The ASDT flight computer aims to combat these issues by providing an affordable and easy to understand system that can be customized for each team's individual needs. As mentioned before, the Telemega costs $500 while our system in total was $137 to produce and offers comparable performance. In addition, we provided a help document found to be easy to understand by 10 of our peers. Functionally, our system is capable of recording a variety of telemetric data such as acceleration in the x, y and z direction, GPS coordinates, altitude, barometric pressure and temperature. After data acquisition, our system transmits the data via LoRa to a ground station to be stored or manipulated as the teams wish.
